How lessons work

My lesson format is to provide a firm foundation in floating and controlled breathing, followed by streamlining, correct kicking and arm strokes, in the that order. The swimmer will learn to swim with a flutter kick and will learn both a paddling and breaststroke style arm strokes. With a correct body posture and ability to breathe when needed, the swimmer will quickly progress to recognizable freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.

Where I teach

I am a full time coach and instructor at Raleigh Swimming Association. I have taught since 2008 at a number of places and I believe Raleigh Swimming Association has the best program. For more information on their group lessons, call (919) 859-4881 or go to swimrsa.org. You may request me, and there are several skilled instructors if I am not available. I do not receive a commission, as I am a salaried employee, but I am happy to recommend their services as I believe in their program and values.

In the summer, I earn extra money as a mobile instructor. My mobile season is from April through September. During this season, I travel to my clients and teach in their private or neighborhood pools. I cannot teach in the Raleigh or Durham city pools, LifeTime or YMCA pools due to their prohibitions on outside instructors, who they view as competition for their swim lesson programs.

I offer the option of splitting a lesson between families. If you have one child and your neighbor has one child, you can book one hour and I will teach both children one at a time. One person must be responsible for booking the lesson and all communication about the lesson schedule. Payment must be made by one party, and the booking party is responsible for payment for the full if the other party fails to show.

I ask that the location I am traveling to be 1/2 hour from Raleigh Swimming Association so that I have time to get to the next appointment. If the location is too far out, I may need to cancel and will refund any payment. If you know your location is too far, for example, in Chapel Hill, but still want lessons, I may be able to add a surcharge to compensate for additional travel time. Please call me at (919) 297-2011 or email me to discuss.
